Young Carers

Celebrating Son's and Daughter's Day

On Son’s and Daughter’s Day 2016 we are choosing to celebrate the thousands of children in the UK who care for their parents. A Young Carer is somebody aged 18 or under who cares for a parent or family member with a condition such as a disability, illness, mental health condition, or a drug or alcohol problem.

Young carers can give physical support as well as emotional support to loved ones in their family. The support carers give is varied but just like adult carers young carers do things such as extra jobs around the home as well as more physical things like getting parents or siblings dressed.

Being a young carer is such a huge responsibility and it has an almost unparalleled impact on relationships that children have with their family members as well as impacting on their own social and educational life.

Today on 11th August we want to show appreciation for all the young carers out there and help raise awareness of these brave young people.

For information on rights of young carers please visit here .

If you or someone you know is a young carer please visit The Children’s Society for help and support.
